The first radio to sell for less than
$10.00, the Crosley "Pup" was advertised for sale at only $9.75. These are
hard to find as they were small and inexpensive and most were just tossed
in the trash when they quit working or were replaced by a more
sophisticated set.
The "Pup" uses A regenerative circuit that
works quite well. Battery requirements (when using the correct tube - WD or WX-12) is 1.5 V "A" supply & 22.5 V
"B", It will also work quite well with a UV or UX-201A.ous
The above radio has been meticulously
restored by yours truly and it works
really well. For those that have never tuned in stations with the "Pup",
you are in for a surprise. It's just about the best working one tube radio
that was made in the 1920s, working far better than the Radiola III or
Radiola SR (both are two tube radios).
The bottom cover was missing and I had a new one fabricated.
I doubt you would not have known that had I not so stated. Likewise the bottom
label is my repro also. The grid leak resistor has also been
rebuilt (new resistor inside original glass)
I am offering the above
radio for sale and a reprint of the 1924 ad (linked below). Includes a good working WX-12 tube as pictured
above.
Bonzo the "Pup" is not for
sale.
