"Multiphone" crystal radio receiver. Features a
unique clip-in detector unit and multiple connections for up to 6
headphones.
E.T. Lombard Co. of
Oakland, CA. I'm not sure of the date of this piece but
my best guess is the late 1930's or early '40's. I believe this to
be quite rare as no one I know has seen another like it. One
fellow thought it it had been repainted but a close inspection
kills that idea. I'm sure it's 100% original.
Has a distinct western flavor with the bronco
riding cowboy and the text reading: "YIPEE-E-E" on both sides.
Excellent condition, complete and 100% original
except the tuning knob (which was missing), I installed one of
similar shape and design. Has the original bottom and rear labels
with instructions. The insides can't be seen as to do so would
mean removing nails, staples etc and damaging the case. It has
never been taken apart.
I did attempt to see if it would operate and only
got some noise when the antenna was connected or discounted. I'm
sure the detector unit has long since lost it's ability to detect.
One could easily install a small diode inside the clip-in detector
unit but I choose to leave it original. |
