Olympic
models
445 & 447
These will be of interest to those that like historic items.
From my project shelf, a pair of what appears
to be common 50's type portable radios. What makes these sets
interesting is the transistor version. The tube set (model 445) is
standard fare. The transistor version (model 447) is quite
interesting. It's seems that Olympic was in such a hurry to get a
transistor radio on the market in the mid 1950's (as was all
manufacturers) that they took their tube version and simply
modified it by stuffing transistors into the tube sockets and made
other necessary circuit changes using the same chassis and layout.
They added a trim piece that read: "ALL TRANSISTOR" across the
bottom of the case and viola, they had their first all transistor radio.
I'm offering these as a pair, as found. They
are not in pristine condition but complete and all original.
Nothing is broken, just a bit scuffed & dirty and in need of a
good clean & shine.
Year: 1954
Case: plastic
Dial: part of the knob

Knobs: original
Chassis: reasonably clean
Grille: part of case, undamaged
Number of tubes: 4 tube - 4 transistors
