Zenith "Walton"
model 9S232 (9-S-232)
A REAL BEAUTY!
Just acquired and electronic restoration
completed. This beautiful radio was owned by a good friend for
many years. He had the cabinet restored by one of the best wood
crafters in the area at the time. The cabinet was professionally
and properly done, stripped, stained, grain filled and finished
with multiple coats of hand rubbed lacquer. The only negative
about this radio is a small area in the wood on the (top right as
viewed head on), when seen at a certain angle is slightly rippled
in a couple places.

Zenith
model 835
From my personal collection, a large, much sought after model.
This hard to find, highly desirable, beautiful radio that I've
owned for many years now needs a new caretaker. I did a
complete restoration on it about 15 years ago and it
still looks and works great.
When I found this radio, there were a few places on the lower
front panels where the veneer was loose with some small
missing pieces. I re-glued the loose areas and carefully matched
and replaced the missing pieces. Today, I cannot tell which of
these are the ones I replaced. I did not strip the cabinet and
refinish it. I did what I refer to as a: "spiff up". The knobs were missing and were replaced with
reproductions of the proper type, size, shape and color. The
grille had some rust and I had it re-chromed. The grille cloth was not
available in the proper pattern at the time I restored the radio
and since it was in fair condition, I decided to re-use the
original cloth.
One more thing worth mentioning are the two internal side ribs
seen in the rear photo. This style of tall cabinet with
un-reinforced side panels are prone to warping. I installed the
ribs to re-enforce and help prevent such warping.
NOTE: the chassis
IS NOT RUSTY! It has a brown crinkle finish and it
is all original and perfect.
Year: 1935
Cabinet: top is solid walnut, veneer sides, lower is a burl
of some type
Finish: spiffed,
excellent
Back: n/a
Dial: original, back lighted
Knobs: reproductions
Chassis: exceptionally clean, crinkle painted original
Tuning type: capacitance, super-het
Power transformer: yes
Speaker: original, perfect

Flaws, cracks, blems : as mentioned in write-up

Zenith "Walton"
model 7J232 (7-J-232)
This is one of five (and the rarest) models of the Zenith
"Walton's". This version differs from all the others in that it
will work equally well from a 6 volt battery or standard house
current (120 volts AC). The circuitry it also quite different as
the tube line-up includes a low current drain tube in the output
stage as a push-pull speaker driver. The Speaker is also different
in that it utilizes a permanent magnet rather than than a filed
coil (the standard of the day). To further save battery drain,
there's no tuning eye. One more item worthy of mention since it
uses a "vibrator" power supply when operated from a 6 volt DC
source are additional capacitors for quieting. The 9 tube model has a total
of 21 (paper, tubular & electrolytic's) and this model has 36! The
performance of this set is outstanding, very sensitive, selective
and tracking is as near perfect as I've seen on this type of dial.
It has been electronically restored, carefully aligned and all
functions work perfectly. The finish is original but has been "spiffed
up", not stripped and refinished. Although it has a few very
minor blems (a major one shows up quite well on the right side show in the photo's), it presents itself
beautifully. High resolution, large photo image files are
available on request.
Year: 1937
Cabinet: Wood/Walnut
Finish: original - very good
Back: n/a
Dial: black shutter-dial, back lit metal
Knobs: original except the tuning knob is a repro
Chassis: exceptionally clean
Tuning type: capacitance, super-het
Power transformer: yes
Speaker: original
Grille cloth: original
No. of tubes: 7
Electronic condition: restored - excellent
Flaws, cracks, blems : nothing significant except scratch
on right side
Frequency coverage: 3 bands, AM, standard broadcast +2
short wave
Antenna requirements: external long-wire
Measurements (approx): 23 x 17 x 13"

From my collection, one of the most beautiful and ornate cathedral
style radios. I purchased this from an antique shop in Firth, WA
about 15 years ago. It was in the condition that you now see it when
found. I did nothing to it until now. When purchased, some of the
thin veneer decorative trim work was loose and missing. I saved the
pieces that fell off and removed the real loose ones before placing
it on the shelf in my display room where it has sat for the last 15
years. Before taking the photo's I carefully glued the pieces
I had saved back in place, dusted it off and took the pictures. I
have not done any electronic work on it and am offering it as-is. I
did carefully power it up before the photo shoot and it has a
moderately loud hum. The speaker, power transformer and all the
serious parts are in excellent condition, it should be and easy
electronic restoration.

The classic "Cathedral" radio. I did a
complete
electronic restoration
on this set about 12 years ago. When I moved in 1996 I sold this
to a good friend of mine. Now (due to his health concerns) he has
ask me to sell it for him.
One of the special qualities of this set is the fact that the
finish and original grille cloth are 100% original. Although not
perfect, the finish is in very good to excellent condition
with only very minor scuffs & blemishes. Very clean inside, they
don't come much better than this.
Even though the radio is not mine, I will take full responsibility
to pack and ship it properly and place my
guarantee of satisfaction on it.

Gilfillan
model 501T "Lefty"
From my project shelf, offered as-found.
An attractive radio, with a neat oval shaped dial. The
rounded corners gives this set a bit of stylish simplicity.
I dubbed it a "Lefty" as left hand dials are fairly rare in
vintage radios. It needs some minor cabinet repair and a
re-finish (or spiffing up) plus an electronic restoration. The
tubes light, slight humming sound from the speaker but no audio.
It should be a simple, routine electronic restoration. Has the
original schematic, AC cord has been removed for safety reasons as
it was badly deteriorated.
