Grebe Radio
model SK-4, circa 1929

This beautiful radio begs to be shown off, it's quite a large set (51 inches tall). Recently acquired from a long time friend and I just completed an electronic restoration. The restoration did not involve much, all that was needed was to wipe off a little dust and re-stuff all the by-pass capacitor cans on the RF chassis. Take a look at the various images of the beautifully designed and constructed chassis. Using the words of my good friend; it's "simple elegance". Being a TRF type circuit, it's no simple design, this set has 6 tuned circuits, 4 RF, 1 antenna and the detector stage is tuned....very sensitive and quite selective, one of the best I've seen. Tube line-up: 3-#24A'a, 1-#27, 2-#45's and 1-#80.

For those of you who do refinish work and think early radios should not have a shiny finish and do them in tung oil or satin, I wish I could properly show the finish on this set. It's 100% original and has quite a high gloss. I will attempt to show that in the images later, however like the two full size photos, the real beauty just does not show......better photos later?
