Near Mint, in
original box with papers, from 1931
From my collection, another great find, a
cute, early test
oscillator in near mint condition in it's original box.
Such units were later called "Signal Generators". This model
provides an RF signal that covers the AM broadcast band from 550
- 1500 Kc and below to 130 Kc.
It's a small, compact unit that's
battery operated and uses a #30 tube for the oscillator. The
insides are completely housed in a metal shield. The battery
compartment is under the removable meter panel. The nickel
plated dome covers the top of the tube to complete the 100%
shielding. The tube appears to be the original small envelope
"Globe" style
that still has the fabric "pull-out" wrapping (so you
can remove the tube).
The only thing that keeps me from
describing this as "Mint" is a couple of very small scratches on
the instrument's panel. The fabric covering does not have a nick
or blemish. If you collect early test instruments, I doubt that
you will ever fine a piece as nice as this.
