Wonderphone - Seattle (Rare)
High Power, double button (or more) carbon microphone
From my collection, this and the Western Electric mic (above) were
acquired locally (Portland, OR area) from another
radio collector years ago. This mic was used at two different
early radio stations in the pacific NW. Here is the text from the
only documentation I have is the type written tag that was on the
mic when the former owner acquired it back in the 50's or 60's.
Here is content of the tag's text:
The "Wonderphone" built in Seattle. Originally developed for the
Dubilier Wireless Telephone, which was a modulated Arc
transmitter. Used two or more carbon buttons in parallel.
This particular mic was used by Vincent Kraft with his 7XC in 1921
and KJR in 1922, one of Seattle's pioneer stations. |
Year: 1921
Type: multiple button carbon
Case: all metal

Western Electric 600A
double button carbon "Ring Mic"
An early "ring microphone" with reproduction ring mount & stand.
The microphone element itself appeared to be new & unused (as it
was wrapped in it's original paper wrapping and was in a small
cloth bag with the shipping protector cover on it) when I found
it. The ring, flag and stand are reproductions from Ekkehart Willms:
http://www.vintagephone.com/ I
received this e-mail from Ekkehart Willms (the fellow Whom I
purchased the base, ring, springs and flag from):
"Hi, I just wanted
to let you know that the bottom base is also original (it is a
Kellogg manual telephone base ca 1908) - Ekkehart"
Year: 1920's
Type: carbon, double button
Case: nickel plated metal, like new
