Circa 1937, model 4505 in ivory
Plaskon, dubbed "the Election". Built by Colonial Radio
Co., this series was one of the first mass
marketed plastic radios and sold for $9.79 as model 4414 in black
in the 1936 catalog.
It's difficult to find radio
cabinets of this type of material that do not suffer from serious
stress fractures or cracks. This one is an exception, the case is
perfect except for only two very minor stress fractures. One is at
the top just to the left of the "right center" and will not show
in a photo. The other shows slightly just below the tuning dial
starting at the "t" in Silvertone (click on that area to enlarge).
The tuning knob is a reproduction as most are severely warped. The
grille cloth has been replaced with a very close match of
the original. Some versions had cloth on the rear as well but this
one did not (better ventilation without). External antenna
required for decent reception.
