Circa: mid 1920s, acquired recently and in unusually near new condition! A complete crystal receiver (variable & detector) with an unusual tuning method. There is an extension rod stored in the lid that screws onto the center post of the coils. The coils are then moved up or down for tuning, an unusual receiver indeed.
These were made by at least two manufacturers, the other I've seen was made by Aerial Electric Company of Chicago. The metal tag was otherwise identical to the one shown in the above image. A noteworthy addition to the tag other than brand and company info is the Effective Range statement: Loud Speaker - 2 miles; Headphones - 500 miles.
I acquired this recently and have not yet had a chance to determine the validity of that statement, I will add my findings when I do so.
