Emerson models CF255 ca:1939, model 540A (bottom right) ca:1947 |
These were advertised as the worlds smallest radios, they measure just 6.5" wide x 4.75" tall.. Although they look quite similar, looks is where it ends. The 1939 version is a 2 tube TRF radio. The 1947 model is features the standard All American 5 super-het (5 tubes) with built-in loop antenna and inductive tuning. The cabinets where made of Plaskon. As for the "Emersonette" being the worlds smallest radio as it was advertised at the time. They measured approximately 6.5 x 5 x 3.5" In 1952 a competitor made one slightly smaller; the Admiral 7T03CG which measures only 6" x 4.25". |
